Explore ethical elephant adventures with activities and visits to many important locations. Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand
If you’re planning a trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand, and love elephants, Pon Elephant Thailand is a spot you won’t want to miss.
Ms.Supin Achanhan (Mae Pin), the heart and soul behind this place, comes from a family that has cared for elephants for generations. Back in 1964, when the Thai government shut down the logging industry, it was tough for them. Elephants eat a lot, and without the logging work, finding enough food for them became a big challenge.
But Mae Pin and her family, who see these elephants as part of their family, did everything they could to get by. After COVID hit, it was even harder—no tourists meant no income. But when things started to bounce back, Mae Pin found a way to turn things around by welcoming tourists to meet her elephants. That’s how Pon Elephant Thailand was born, right in the Mae Wang area, which used to be a hotspot for adventure activities like trekking and bamboo rafting.
Now, Mae Pin and her family are dedicated to giving these gentle giants the best life possible. At Pon Elephant Thailand, you can feed the elephants, bathe with them, and join in on other fun activities—all on a beautiful 30-acre piece of land that the elephants call home. It’s not just about having fun; it’s about learning, too. Mae Pin hopes that both locals and tourists will come to connect with and learn about these amazing animals.
So, if you’re in the area, drop by! It’s a great way to learn about elephants and see them in a place where they’re truly loved and cared for.
